Solving Medium Puzzles on Paper
Medium puzzles have 30 to 35 given numbers, which means about 50 to 55 blanks. You will solve the first wave of cells with basic scanning — checking rows, columns, and boxes for hidden singles. That typically fills 20 to 30 cells before you need to shift strategies.
When scanning stalls, pencil marks become your friend. Write small candidate numbers in cells where two or three options remain. Look for naked pairs (two cells in a group with the same two candidates) and pointing pairs (candidates in a box that line up in one row or column). These techniques unlock the rest of the grid.
A mechanical pencil with a good eraser makes paper solving much more pleasant at this level. Leave space for pencil marks — or try large print mode which gives you one puzzle per page with bigger cells.
